In 1902 Alex Stewart, Grandfather of Stewarts' present Senior partner Charles E Stewart, commenced practicing in Newtownards. The practice was known as Alexander Stewart and provided legal services to the people of Newtownards and the surrounding rural hinterland for many years.
In 1940 Alex Stewart was succeeded by his son William C. Stewart who continued to practice under the name of Alex Stewart and Son until 1974, when the practice was in turn passed to his son, the present Senior Partner Charles E. Stewart.
On the 1st November 1999 Charles E Stewart and John A Beatty commenced trading in the style of Stewarts Solicitors. Thus the third generation of Stewarts led the practice into the new millennium.
