Charles E. Stewart

Senior Partner

Charles attended Regent House and Campbell College schools. He read law at Queens University Belfast and graduated with an LLB (Hons) in 1969. He was a pipe major of the Campbell College and Queens University OTC Pipe Bands. Charles qualified as a solicitor in 1972 and has extensive experience of residential and commercial conveyancing, including land acquisition for sale and development together with planning issues. He also specialises in the preparation of wills, administration of estates, trusts and tax planning advice. He was appointed as Clerk to the General Commissioner of the Inland Revenue. He has attended conferences on Estate Planning and Trusts held by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He is a member of the Ulster Society of Rugby Union Referees and plays both league tennis and cricket.

 

Charlie P W Stewart

LLB

Charlie is a fourth generation Stewart and son of the current Senior Partner. He was educated at Methodist College Belfast and then Queen’s University of Belfast graduating with an Honours Degree in Law & Accountancy in 2006. Charlie spent time studying in New York prior to returning to Northern Ireland to complete his professional studies at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies with Merit at Queen’s University of Belfast. He was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of Northern Ireland in 2009. His hobbies include rugby, cricket and golf.

 

John A. Beatty

Senior Litigation Partner

John was educated at St. MacNissi's College and at Queens University Belfast where he graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and a Certificate in Professional Legal Studies, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1985. He has extensive experience in all aspects of personal injury litigation, in particular Industrial Accidents having worked on behalf of Trade Unions for many years. He also works extensively in the arena of road traffic accidents, having a particular interest in Spinal and Closed Head injuries. He is a member of APIL (Association of Personal Injury Lawyers), MASS (Motor Accident Solicitors Society) and PEOPIL (Pan-European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers). He has also attended the Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution run by SLS and Queens University and is on the Law Societys list of approved Mediators.

 

Lynne Hyndman

LLB

Lynne was educated in Boclair Academy Bearsden in Glasgow before attending Dundee University and qualifying in Scottish Law in 1992. She moved to Northern Ireland in 1993 and qualified here in 1994. Since then she has obtained extensive experience in Personal Injury work and Matrimonial law. She is one of two partners running the Ballymena branch and has been with Stewarts since April 2000. She has successfully completed the Law Society course for mediators, Collaborative Law and the Advanced Advocacy Course.

 

Judith McConnell

LLB

Judith graduated from Queens University Belfast with Honours Degree in Law in 1995 and was admitted as a Solicitor in November 1997. Judith is based in the Litigation Department with particular focus on Road Traffic Accidents, Public and Employers Liability cases. The majority of her work is in the County Court and High Court. She also advises clients on all area of employment law including employment disputes and is involved in preparing and presenting cases at the Industrial Tribunal. Judith is also a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.

 

David Sturgess

LLB

David was educated at Belfast Royal Academy and Manchester University where he obtained his LLB (Hons). He was enrolled as a solicitor in Northern Ireland in 1997 and joined Geo.L.MacLaine and Co, solicitors where he worked in general practice until moving to the Private Client/Banking Unit of Carson McDowell in late 2000. David gained vast experience during his time at Carson McDowell of all aspects of conveyancing (both domestic and commercial) together with exposure to wide range of lending matters from re-mortgaging and second charge caseloads to acting for major local, national and international lenders in the financing of complex corporate and commercial transactions. David joined Stewarts in December 2007 and was made Partner in 2011.
